In an ongoing initiative to improve the livelihoods of women in the county, the Kwale County government, led by Governor Fatuma Achani and her Deputy Chirema Kombo, is continuing its support for women groups.
The County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Social Services and Talent Management, Madam Francisca Kilonzo while representing the Governor at Mwelekeo Vsla in Lukore urged Village Savings and Loan Association (VSLA) members from the region to come together and register as savings and credit cooperative societies (SACCOs). This move aims to help them expand their saving profits for greater economic growth.
CECM emphasized the importance of cooperation among these groups, stating that unity would enable them to harness their collective strength and resources for sustainable development. She further encouraged the VSLA members to explore potential investment opportunities and take advantage of government initiatives geared towards women empowerment.
The initiative is part of Governor Achani’s wider vision to empower Kwale County women economically, ultimately contributing to the overall socio-economic growth of the region. The county government continues to provide guidance and support to various women groups, fostering self-reliance and entrepreneurship among them.

According to the CECM a close to 20,000 residents of Kwale county have embraced Sacco’s with a total share capital of 60,154,200 and member saving stands as over a million.
Cooperative societies are financial institutions established and operating under the laws of the borrower saving and credit cooperatives and owned by the member’s and governed by the members elected Board of directors.
