A teaching expert, Stephen Munyoki Kioko was laid to rest on Saturday, September 18, 2021 at his Mulundini Village home in Mutuni, Kitui County.
Kioko, who started his career in 1957, died of diabetes and hypertension complications on Saturday, September 11, 2021, aged 85.
The late was born on January 21, 1936 and started off his formal education in 1948 to 1956 at the Mutuni Boys Primary School and in 1958; he joined the Mutuni Teachers Training College where he graduated as the P2 teacher in 1961 where he was later promoted on merit as the P1 teacher.
In 1962 to 1963, he became the headmaster of the Mutomo Intermediate School but later went to head Mulutu Primary School in Kitui District. Before retirement, he became the headmaster of the Katyethoka Primary School in Kitui District between the year 1972 to 1981. In 1968 to 1976, he was the Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Kitui Branch Treasurer.
He then went ahead to become the Kitui Catholic Diocese’s Goats and Sheep Project (GASP) Community Animator in 1982 to 1986, he was the GASP Director in 1987 to 1992.
During his lifetime and aside from teaching, he carried out several duties to the community including the following: Kitui Catholic Diocese’s Justice and Peace Programme (JPP) Coordinator, General Baraza la Waumini Catholic Kenya Deputy Secretary, Kitui Teachers Savings and Credit Cooperative Society Limited Chairman, Syongila Youth Polytechnic Board of Governors Chairman, Mulutu Girls, Saint Angela’s, Tungutu Girls (Saint Ursula) and Matinyani Boys Secondary Schools Boards of Governors Chairman and Kitui Kifaru Football Club Patron among others.
The deceased is survived by his wife Pauline Kalunda, four sons, five daughters, 18 grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
