Lands and housing cabinet secretary Alice Wahome has announced that some 130,000 units are currently being constructed across the country under the affordable housing unit that the Kenya Kwanza administration has rolled out.
The CS who was speaking in Kisumu during the observance of world habitat day said the program will provide numerous employment opportunities and those who stand to benefit from the program include youths and women.
The CS who Kisumu deputy governor Dr Mathew Owili accompanied, said that Kenyans should take advantage of the scheme noting that they are quite affordable at the end of the day.

Wahome said those who take up the scheme will be paying between 3000/- and 5000/- before eventually taking over the houses. Such schemes are important given the rural-urban migration which afflicts many cities worldwide.
She said a number of youth will benefit from making steel doors and other accessories while women in the surrounding will be delivering food to workers. The CS said the projects will have a ripple effect since women and other people will benefit. Some 20,000 youths will benefit from these activities the CS further added.
The CS said the Lumumba housing scheme in Kisumu will have over 2000 housing units.
