The acting chief executive officer of the Kenya Sugar Board Mr. Jude Chesire has been elected the vice chairman of the International Sugar Organization (ISO).
The elections took place during a council meeting held at November 29, 2024, at I Canada Square in Canary Wharf London.
Mr Edgar Herrera the executive director of LAICA of Costa Rica was elected chairman of the Council. Mr Chesire succeeds Mr Herera and assumes the role of vice chairman for a two year term.
ISO council is the highest decision making body in the global sugar industry representing some 114 countries including major sugar and ethanol producers such as Brazil, India and the European Union, Thailand the United Kingdom, South Africam,Autsralia and many others,
These countries collectively produce combined produce over 165 million tons of sugar and hundreds millions of liters of ethanol annually.
This significant achievement for Kenya underscores the country’s growing influence in the international sugar sector and its commitment to promoting sustainable sugar production and trade.
For Chesire Being elected Vice Chairman of the International Sugar Organization (ISO) is indeed a historic achievement for Kenya and Africa.
It’s a testament to his hard work and dedication to the sugar industry.
This new role will provide Kenya with a significant platform to influence global sugar policies and practices, which is a huge step forward for the country’s agricultural sector.
It’s also exciting to see Mr. Chesire poised to become the Chairman of the ISO Council in 2026.
