President William Samoei Ruto has led the country in commemorating World MSMEs Day 2025 at Kenyatta International Conference Centre, Nairobi.
Ruto said Small enterprises are the engines of economic growth since they drive innovation and but also support livelihoods adding that the sector creates the largest number of jobs and generates earnings for young people and women.
“We are, therefore, focused on unlocking its full capacity – through modern infrastructure, progressive policies and access to affordable credit – to accelerate inclusive and sustainable transformation,” Ruto said.
The president was joined by Cabinet Secretary Wycliffe Ambetsa Oparanya who said Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) remain the heartbeat of economy.
“As the Ministry mandated to steer the growth and development of MSMEs in Kenya, we reaffirm our commitment to nurturing a vibrant and sustainable MSME ecosystem,” the CS said.

Oparanya said that the key interventions in the sector includes establishment of a Public-Private roundtable dubbed MSMEs Connect to promote dialogue, build partnerships, and enhance linkages between MSMEs and large enterprises.
He added that the Hustler Fund has been offering affordable credit access for those at the bottom of the economic pyramid is possible.
The president reiterated that in expanding market access Kenya will host the 25th EAC Trade Fair in Nairobi this October, bringing together MSMEs from across the region.
“The government is building MSMEs’ capacity to tap into global trade opportunities through the AfCFTA, AGOA, EU Economic Partnership and bilateral agreements,” he said.

In cooperative sector, Ruto said the government is improving governance and supporting aggregation within the cooperative sector to enhance MSME competitiveness.
He also said that in the coffee sector, the government has dismantled cartel networks that exploited farmers in the sector coffee prices have doubled.
“Similar to the coffee sector reforms, we are revitalizing New KCC to increase milk production and boost incomes for dairy farmers,” Ruto said
