The Meru County Government in collaboration with the National Agricultural Value Chain Development Project (NAVCDP) has expressed commitment in enhancing agricultural productivity and promoting sustainable agribusiness practices.
The initiative focuses on equipping lead farmers with essential skills and knowledge in Technologies, Innovations, and Management Practices (TIMPs).
County officers led by Jasper Muthomi, a Liaison Officer in the Office of Agriculture, Livestock, and Fisheries, conducted training sessions held at AIPCA St. Dominic Igembe Diocese in Njia ward and Kangeta Mixed Day Secondary School in Kangeta ward, Igembe Central Sub-County.
The training sessions were conducted in farmer value chain groups of 25 to 40 members, specifically focused on the Irish potato value chain.
Muthomi emphasized the practical application of the knowledge and skills acquired by lead farmers, encouraging them to share these insights with fellow farmers.

“Let us spread the word to others so that we move forward together. I urge you also to join SACCOs within your Common Interest Groups (CIGs)”, he made a call to farmers.
The liason officer also noted that the move would accelerate the commercialization of potato farming and support the transition towards market-oriented agriculture.
Igembe Central Sub-County Crops Officer Isaiah Mung’athia reassured farmers of full support from the County Government of Meru, reiterating its commitment to capacity building as a key driver of transformation in Meru County’s agricultural sector.
“This will be a step towards Sustainable Agribusiness. The County Government is committed to the capacity building of farmers gearing them towards a better agriculture sector”, said Mung’athia.
