Principal Secretary State Department for Internal Security and National Administration Raymond Omollo has urged bodaboda operators to join associations in order to benefit from empowerment projects.
The PS, who was speaking in Ongata Rongai, Kajiado North, during the Kazi ni Kazi Boda Boda Empowerment Programme, said the operators should put their investments in cooperative societies.
Omollo said investing in such initiatives will assist them in owning land in the region.
He added that the government will also ensure the operators are beneficiaries of government initiatives, such as the Affordable Housing programme, which aligns with the broader Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA).
“The government is giving every Kenyan an opportunity to own a house; we have a percentage put aside to ensure the operators have houses,” he said.
The PS underscored the sector’s contribution to the economy; he called on the operators to promote public safety and order, and comply with traffic regulations. He donated Ksh1 million for the empowerment of the operators in the county.

Kevin Mubadi, National Executive Chairman BodaBoda Safety Association of Kenya (BAK), promised to work closely with the government to benefit from initiatives such as the Affordable Housing Programme.
Kajiado County BAK Chairman Alex Gitari challenged the government to act on stolen motorcycles that end up in Tanzania.
Gitari also raised concerns over Nairobi County preventing riders from accessing the city center, with the PS promising to address the issue.
The Kazi ni Kazi Boda Boda Empowerment Programme is a flagship government initiative aimed at formalizing the sector, enhancing rider safety, improving livelihoods, and promoting the economic inclusion of youth in the transport industry.
