Wakenya Pamoja Sacco Society (WPS) Limited has reported an asset base exceeding Ksh2 billion, with deposits of over Ksh952 million and share capital surpassing Ksh624.7 million, as the deposit- taking Sacco continues its expansion across the Kisii-Nyanza region.

The Sacco has grown from its origins in 1976 as a Union Banking Section of the Kisii Farmers’ Co-operative Union (KFCU) into one of the fastest growing farmer based financial co-operatives in the region, with plans to expand its operations across the country.

The Sacco became autonomous in 1992 under the name Gusii Farmers Rural Sacco Society Limited before later changing its name as part of a strategic move to expand geographically and diversify its financial offerings.

Over the years, governance reforms have enabled the Sacco to move beyond tea and coffee financing into value chain financing, microfinance, business development financing and asset financing, broadening its scope to serve a wider membership base.

The Sacco is regulated by the Sacco Societies Regulatory Authority (SASRA) and operates under the Co-operative Societies Act and the Sacco Societies Act of 2008. It was among the first ten Saccos licensed in 2011 to conduct deposit-taking business, a milestone that reinforced its regulatory compliance and its capacity to safeguard member savings while expanding lending.

As at December 31, 2025, the Sacco had extended affordable credit worth Ksh953 million to members, supporting businesses, education, housing and agriculture.

Membership grew from 140,450 in 2024 to 148,039 in 2025, a rise of 5.4 percent. In response, the Sacco increased its number of delegates from 150 to 200 as part of a broader set of leadership reforms intended to promote gender balance, youth inclusion and partnerships with coffee societies.

Wakenya Pamoja Sacco is led by Chairman Francis Ayieko and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dr Isaac Omwenga, whose leadership has been credited with driving reforms centred on inclusivity, accountability and sustainability. The Sacco’s governance structure is anchored in a delegates system, with annual delegates meetings serving as its supreme authority.

The Sacco’s branch network spans Kisii, Nyamaiya, Nyamarambe, Ogembo, Marani, Kebirigo, Magombo, Nyamache, Keroka, Oyugis, Tabaka, Ikonge, Kenyenya, Suneka and Magwagwa. It has outlined plans to expand into Nairobi and Nakuru in the coming years.

Members have access to a range of products, including Ordinary accounts for farmers, civil servants, pensioners and business people, and corporate accounts for schools, churches, hospitals and institutions.
