- Dikwata Sacco visited Kenya National Police DT Sacco, Mwalimu National Sacco and United Civil Servants Sacco to learn from their operations and growth models.
A delegation from Dikwata Savings and Credit Cooperative (Sacco) in Gaborone, Botswana, has completed a two week job shadowing programme across Kenya and Malawi, organised by the African Confederation of Cooperative Savings and Credit Associations (ACCOSCA).
The initiative was undertaken at the request of the Botswana Savings and Credit Cooperative Association (BOSCA), the national umbrella body for Saccos in Botswana. It gave the visiting team a firsthand look at how established credit unions across the continent run their operations.
Lieutenant Colonel Lesego Lecha, Chief Executive Officer of Dikwata Sacco, led the delegation. The programme covered five thematic areas: governance and institutional strengthening, digital transformation, member centric service models, strategic growth and diversification, and institutional partnerships.
ACCOSCA said the exposure was designed to help Dikwata Sacco shape new strategies for sustainable growth and stronger member service back home.
Three Saccos opened their doors to the Botswana team. In Malawi, United Civil Servants Sacco hosted the delegation and shared its institutional journey. In Kenya, the Kenya National Police Deposit-Taking (DT) Sacco and Mwalimu National Sacco did the same, offering insights into their growth and service models.

Beyond the host institutions, two national associations coordinated the visit within their respective countries. The Malawi Union of Savings and Credit Cooperatives (MUSCCO) managed logistics in Malawi, while KUSCCO Ltd, the umbrella body for Saccos in Kenya, did the same locally.
ACCOSCA thanked all the participating institutions, describing the exchange as an example of cooperation among cooperatives. The confederation, headquartered in Nairobi, regularly facilitates such exchanges among its member associations across Africa as part of efforts to strengthen the Sacco movement continent wide.
