EATTA Managing Director George Omuga said seven factories achieved above Ksh388.08 per kg ($3 per kg), led by Mununga factory at Ksh433.36 per kg ($3.35). Imenti followed at Ksh416.93 per kg ($3.23), then Githongo at Ksh404.90 per kg ($3.13), Rukuriri at Ksh401.02 per kg ($3.10), Ngere at Ksh391.96 per kg ($3.03), and Gathuthi at Ksh389.58 per kg ($3.02).
“Since the introduction of the tea levy in May only Mununga, Gathuthi, and Rukuriri had achieved the price above $3 per kg. We plead for the best prices to motivate the growers,” said Omuga.
KTDA Holdings Chairman Enos Njeru appreciated the factories’ directors for posting the best returns since the tea levy of Ksh2.28 per kg was implemented on May 1.
“The tea factories from the east of the Rift engaged the buyers to allow the absorption of the levy rather than rejecting the teas,” said Njeru.
