The Government of Kenya has signed a Host Country Agreement with the African Confederation of Cooperative Savings and Credit Associations (ACCOSCA), granting the body diplomatic status under the Privileges and Immunities Act (Cap. 179).
The agreement was signed in Nairobi by Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, who also heads the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and George Ombado, ACCOSCA’s Head of Mission. The recognition strengthens ACCOSCA’s standing as it works to grow, develop and raise the visibility of the Sacco movement across Africa.

ACCOSCA’s Board and Management thanked the Government of Kenya, particularly the Ministry of Cooperatives and MSMEs Development under CS Wycliffe Oparanya, for its support in securing the status.
Diplomatic status typically grants an organisation legal protections and privileges similar to those afforded to foreign missions, easing its operations within the host country.
For ACCOSCA, this could translate into smoother engagement with Kenyan authorities and greater standing when dealing with governments and partners elsewhere on the continent.
