Tea farmers are set to reduce warehousing costs that run into millions of shillings annually following the planned completion of a mega warehouse in Mombasa next year.

Once completed, the smallholder tea factories are set to register an impact designed to reduce the operating costs in the marketing of the produce before the Mombasa Tea Auction.

During the launch of the Chai Trading Company Limited (CTCL) five-year strategic plan, company Chairman David Ndung’u said the facility, located in Miritini in the coastal town, will be of major assistance to the tea trade. He said it will establish centralised storage of nearly all Kenya Tea Development Agency (KTDA) teas for more efficient handling.

The strategic plan will focus on impacting value to the farmers through accelerating efficiency, cost reduction, and sustainable warehousing and tea trading.
