Dairy farmers across Kenya will now be paid Ksh65 for every litre of milk they deliver, with an extra Ksh2 per litre added each quarter, President William Ruto has announced. The new rate takes effect this month as the government tries to lift farmers’ incomes while the country grapples with a stubborn milk shortage.
Ruto made the announcement on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, during the 63rd Mashujaa Day celebrations at Kipchoge Keino Stadium in Eldoret. He said the latest rate builds on earlier increases in what processors pay producers.

According to the President, farmers were once paid Ksh35 per litre, and that figure climbed to Ksh60 before this latest adjustment. Put differently, earnings per litre have almost doubled in a short time. He added that national milk output has also grown by one billion litres over the same period.
Ruto pointed to Eldoret as proof that the gains are being felt on the ground. The town hosts New Kenya Co-operative Creameries (New KCC), which he described as a key player in the country’s dairy industry.
