Dairy farmers belonging to Koimet Farmers Cooperative Society Ltd in Nandi County now have a 3,000-litre milk cooler and a new main office and dairy facility to serve them.
County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Agriculture and Cooperative Development Kiplimo Araap Lagat handed over the cooler and opened the facility on behalf of Governor Stephen Sang and the county government.
The equipment was paid for by Solidaridad under its Pathways Towards Prosperity programme. The project shows how county authorities and development partners can combine resources to push farming forward in ways that last.
READ:
For the cooperative’s members, the cooler means milk can be chilled and held at the society itself rather than losing quality while it waits for a buyer. That should cut spoilage, protect what farmers earn from each delivery and make the society’s milk collection and marketing run more smoothly.
The new office and dairy facility gives the cooperative’s management a better base from which to run daily operations and serve its members.
