Kenya has conducted an inception meeting on Women Economic Empowerment (WEE) Project in Voi, Taita Taveta County.

The project is aimed at enlightening women on how to unite for economic development.

In a meeting overseen by Jack Odiwa – project manager women economic empowerment project and Action Aid Taita Taveta County Program coordinator Pauline Atieno, group leaders for different women groups  across the County had the opportunity to share the challenges they face and what they aspire to be done in order to positively develop their economic status.

Women unanimously agreed that they need empowerment programs for areas such as agri-business, how to join and benefit from the various cooperative societies and enlightenment on how they can benefit from the valuable natural resources available in the county such as gemstones.

According to Atieno, Action Aid has been in Taita Taveta for over seven years which has made them decide to bring the project so that women in the region can benefit.

The project is expected to be channeled to the various leaders in the county government who will make it a success by addressing the issues affecting women in the region and how they should curb them for their economic development.
