The Coffee Brewers Bar through their CEO John Muli has assured coffee buyers of quality coffee from Machakos county and urged them to sample coffee from the region.
Speaking during the Agricultural Society of Kenya South Eastern Kenya National Show exhibition held in Machakos, Muli argued that coffee from Tala and Kangundo areas in Machakos grow in fine conditions and will compete favourably in the world market.
He argued that the quality of coffee produced is determined by the conditions under which the plant is grown.
Muli urged farmers to take care of their coffee plants as it is one of the most important steps of determining the quality of coffee produced.
He revealed that the Coffee Brewers Bar is involved in barista training of the youth who are largely excluded in coffee affairs but are critical for the future of the industry.
The baristas are also currently running a programme to monitor the coffee growing process and production right from the farm to the brewed cup on the table
“The youth are trained on the basics including separating the ripe red coffee cherry from the rest, using machines to process and many other procedures in order to empower them to gain skills useful in the coffee Industry,” Muli said.
He added that the industry was anticipating changes following the move by the national government taskforce to compile a report on coffee reforms like marketing of the produce, how to weed out cartels in the industry and how to make coffee farming more profitable to the farmer.
The CEO noted with concern that coffee farming was faced with the challenge of global warming and urged coffee farmers to plant trees to reduce the effects of global warming.
Over 100 exhibitors showcased their products during the exhibition. The winners received trophies from Governor Wavinya Ndeti.
