Twenty seven new cooperative societies have been registered in Taita Taveta County by the Cooperative Development Ministry officials, Sacco Review has learnt.
According to the Taita Taveta County Cooperative Director, Erastus Gonzi the registration of the new societies in the region would enable residents to get loans and invest heavily to boost their personal development.
He advised those who have not joined cooperatives to do so immediately in order to uplift their living standards.
Gonzi further revealed that many people in the country have managed to accomplish their personal development projects through taking loans from their respective cooperative societies, hence expanding them within the county will enable more people to expand their development base.
“Joining cooperative is the right direction to go, more people are encouraged to join and develop themselves,” noted Gonzi.
He also advised Cooperatives members in the region to borrow loans wisely and pay promptly so as to enable others to benefit from the same loan products.

The Cooperative director further warned members against defaulting, adding that defaulting is a bad practice and would lead to the collapse of cooperatives.
“You should therefore avoid defaulting in your respective Cooperatives,” he told members in the area.
Meanwhile, Gonzi has stated that three dormant Cooperative societies in the county are set for revival.
This, he added that the move would enable county residents to join the cooperatives in large numbers to uplift the living standards.
