Claims will soon be settled within 24 hours, NSSF says

NSSF Managing Trustee David Koros

The National Social Security Fund (NSSF) is working on modalities to ensure that members’ claims are paid within 24 hours, but they will first put measures to settle claims within 14 days.

Speaking in Kisumu during a consultative meeting with members of the Central Organization of Trade Unions (COTU), NSSF Managing Trustee David Koros disclosed that they managed to clear outstanding claims to 20,000 members between June and July this year.

COTU Secretary General Francis Atwoli said that NSSF contributions cover Kenyan workers from the dangers of old-age poverty.

Atwoli called for strengthening of enforcement and compliance to ensure the Fund collects its targeted Ksh10 billion monthly.

“The only way for NSSF to enhance its contributions from the current 5.7 billion monthly collections to over 10 billion is through strengthening their enforcement and compliance departments,” he said.

COTU regretted that counties are yet to remit Ksh2.7 billion to the fund, stressing that an effective Compliance and Enforcement Unit would have imposed fines to ensure compliance in the future.
