Uasin Gishu County government has highlighted some of its development in the last four years under devolution.
During the period, the County’s Enterprise Development Fund (CEDF) disbursed loans amounting to Sh80 million to 35 Co-operative societies at an affordable interest rate of between 5 and 8 per cent. The societies have also been trained to enhance their capacity.
It also gave loans to over 150 traders in Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) totaling Sh19 million and constructed 13 markets, 120 modern kiosks as four new markets are under construction while six more to be renovated in this financial year. This includes Kuinet, Sogomo, Kapsoya and Ainabkoi markets.
In a move to cater for youths, women and business people, over 2,000 traders have been reached and issued with certificates as the department consults with SMEs on ways of providing business advisory services. To support trade and investment in the County, the department passed laws that have made it easier for investors to invest in the County. – Kiptanui Rutto.
