MPs, MCAs urged to support Saccos

By Our Reporter.

Busia MPs and MCAs have been challenged to support the growth of Saccos in the County.
Busia County Co-operative Enterprise Development Fund Chairman, Peter Kubebea, said political leaders should use resources allocated to them through National Government-Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) or Ward Development Funds (WDF) to finance budding of Co-operatives to empower local residents.
Speaking in Busia town recently, Kubebea urged MPs to at least give Sh20 million out of their Sh110 million CDF allocation to Sacco activities. He said MCAs should also allocate Sh3 million each toward local Saccos. Kubebea said Sh245 million will be loaned to Sacco members at an interest rate of five per cent.
He lauded Busia Governor Sospeter Ojaamong for launching the Enterprise Fund with an initial funding of Sh50 million. The money was disbursed to 15 Co-operative societies in the region.
