Government holds coffee sensitization forums to boost coffee production in Kisii, Nyamira counties

The National government in collaboration with County government of Nyamira County and Kisii County has held a coffee sensitization programme in Kisii County that brought together coffee farmers and other stakeholders from various Cooperatives.

The revival of coffee through the Co-operative Societies Programme, spearheaded by New Kenya Planters Cooperative Union (KPCU) PLC in partnership with the Ministry of Co-operatives and MSMEs Development.

Cabinet Secretary Wycliffe Oparanya who joined Nyamira Governor Amos Nyaribo for the engagement forum in North Mugirango said the ministry will continue to collaborate with County Governments across all the 33 coffee-growing counties to drive a coffee-led economic transformation through cooperatives to promote inclusive and sustainable grassroots development.

The CS said during the forum that the government has agreed with coffee stakeholders to implement a series of strategic reforms in the region’s coffee subsector.

These reforms aim to boost production and ensure farmers receive fair value for their produce.

The forums show farmers and stakeholders taken through improved coffee farming practices, access to certified seedlings, and the benefits of cooperative participation.

Nyamira Governor Amos Nyaribo expressed his commitment for the support of the program to revive coffee farming the region and for farmers to sell their produce at fair prices.

Other leaders present include PS Patrick Kilemi, North Mugirango MP Joash Nyamache, New KPCU Chairperson Daniel Chemno and the MD, Timothy Mirugi, and other senior government officials.
