Gusii Sacco elects first ever woman to powerful docket

History was made when teachers in Kisii region elected a female for the first time to head the Supervisory Committee at the Gusii Mwalimu Sacco. This was after the expiry period of the former management committee.
Josephine Nyaboke Mogire from Masimba, Keumbu Division, trounced two male candidates to win the seat held by the former chairman James Ogero, who has joined politics to vie for the Keumbu Ward MCA’s seat in Kisii County.
Josephine garnered 27 votes against Zebedee Nyang’au and Peter Ongaga who got 18 votes and 7 votes respectively during recent elections held at Kisii Primary School.
Josephine who was endorsed from her home base by 11 delegates was first elected in 2013. She has promised to fulfill all expectations of Gusii Sacco members.
During the elections, directors who retained their seats include Treasurer John Omwocha and Henry Omonywa, who represents Marani and Getembe Zones. The former Sacco secretary Francis Mangare has retired and plans to vie for Ekerenyo Ward MCA seat in Nyamira County.
Also retaining their seats was William Manoti (Bogeka), Steve Bw’omeka (Getembe) and William Libaton (Raganga)
Kisii County Commissioner for Cooperatives Vincent Kenyariri described the elections as free and fair and commended the Board of Management for its competence and focus in improving the welfare of Gusii Teachers Sacco members.
