- Ikalaasa Dairy Cooperative has received fresh funding to strengthen its operations
- The support will improve milk collection, preservation and processing capacity
- The investment is expected to help farmers access better markets and improve incomes
Ikalaasa Dairy Cooperative in Kibauni Ward, Machakos County, has received a Ksh805,500 boost to strengthen its operations and improve milk collection and processing.
The cheque was issued to the cooperative as part of efforts to support dairy farmers, enhance milk handling and improve the value farmers derive from their produce.
The support is also expected to strengthen the cooperative’s capacity to provide better services to dairy farmers while creating opportunities for improved market access and increased household incomes.
The latest funding comes in addition to milk cooling machines previously provided to the cooperative to enhance milk preservation and maintain the quality of milk before it reaches the market.

Speaking after issuing the cheque, Wavinya Ndeti said continued investment in cooperative societies was important because they provide farmers with an avenue to pool resources, improve productivity and access better markets.
“I will continue to invest in cooperative societies because they provide a strong platform for farmers to pool resources, improve productivity, access better markets, and increase their incomes,” Ndeti said.
The support is part of the broader “Chakula Mezani, Pesa Mfukoni” vision, which seeks to strengthen agricultural production while improving the economic well-being of farming households.
The Kenya Dairy Board has previously emphasised the importance of hygienic milk handling and quality control in strengthening Kenya’s dairy sector. The Board has also identified market access and improved dairy enterprise practices as key areas for increasing the incomes of households dependent on dairy production.
The investment is therefore expected to give the cooperative additional capacity to handle farmers’ milk, improve its operations and strengthen the link between dairy production and household incomes.
