Imenti South Member of Parliament Dr. Shadrack Mwiti has issued cheques worth Sh 5 million to 65 boda boda groups in a move aimed at strengthening youth empowerment in the constituency.
The funds were distributed during an event at Nkubu Stadium, attended by local leaders and stakeholders.
Speaking during the event, Dr Mwiti said the program reflects his long-standing commitment to uplifting boda boda operators, whom he described as key drivers of the local economy.
He noted that the exercise began early in the morning and covered multiple areas before concluding in Mitunguu.
“My aim as the Member of Parliament for South Imenti is to contribute enough money and resources that are going to empower them,” said Dr Mwiti.
He reiterated that the initiative is part of the promises he made during the campaign period, assuring residents that tangible development is already being realized.
Dr Mwiti added that he remains focused on ensuring long-term economic independence for riders through continuous support.
He further pledged to expand similar programs if re-elected in the 2027 General Election.

“The promise I made when looking for votes is that I will bring development to the people, which you are all witnessing. When I am re-elected in 2027, I will ensure that boda boda riders are more self-reliant and have money in their pockets,” said Dr Mwiti.
In addtion, Dr Mwiti dismissed critics calling on leaders to exit the government, maintaining that staying within the administration is crucial for delivering development projects.
He argued that collaboration with the national government has enabled the flow of resources into the constituency while expressing gratitude to President William Ruto and Deputy President Kithure Kindiki for supporting empowerment initiatives.
Meru-based businessman GK Kinoti, who accompanied the MP, said the program is designed not only to provide financial support but also to instill discipline among bodaboda riders.
He noted that many young men have lost their lives due to road accidents insisting on the need for structured training.

“We have lost very many boda boda riders, and it is our aim that we will carry out civic education to see that these groups conduct training to teach their members how to ride their bikes in the right manner while following the set traffic rules,” said GK Kinoti.
He added that empowering riders goes hand in hand with promoting responsible behavior, especially in handling accidents.
Kinoti urged operators to follow the law and avoid acts of mob justice that often escalate tensions on the roads.
“Our agenda number one is to see that boda boda riders from South Imenti are empowered and stand out from others. In case of an accident, we want them to follow the law and not take matters into their hands by burning other people’s vehicles,” added GK Kinoti.
Imenti South boda boda chairperson Ken Murithi welcomed the initiative, describing it as timely and impactful for riders across the constituency.
He said the distribution exercise, which started in the morning has reached multiple groups thereby addressing pressing financial needs.
“We have toured different groups since 6.00am in the morning and we have issued the cheques, which I’m really thankful for. We also express our gratitude to President William Ruto and his Deputy Kithure Kindiki for their support towards this initiative,” said Murithi.
