Tea growers in Kiambu County have every reason to celebrate following the announcement of the 2024/25 bonus payments by Gitwe Tea Factory.
The announcement was made by the tea factory director David Muni Ichoho.
According to Ichoho, the bonus allocations per kilogram of green leaf delivered will be as follows: Theta/Ndarugu Ksh 40, Kambaa Ksh 41, Kagwe Ksh 40, Gacege Ksh 35, and Mataara Ksh 36.20. These payments reflect the combined influence of global market dynamics, prudent management, and the exceptional quality of tea produced across the region.
In his remarks, Ichoho lauded the unwavering commitment of farmers, emphasizing that their sacrifices and diligence continue to uphold Kenya’s reputation as a producer of premium tea.

He noted that while the sector faces fluctuations in international demand and climatic uncertainties, Kiambu’s farmers have remained steadfast, ensuring consistent yields and top-tier leaf quality.
“This bonus is not merely a financial disbursement; it is a well-deserved recognition of the sweat and perseverance of our farmers. They are the lifeblood of this industry and the guardians of Kenya’s global tea legacy,” he affirmed.
The payouts are expected to inject significant liquidity into rural economies, enabling households to meet pressing obligations such as school fees, healthcare, and farm reinvestments. Economists also project that the disbursement will stimulate local commerce and enhance the purchasing power of communities dependent on tea.
