Kisumu County Governor Anyang' Nyong'o addressing residents.

Kisumu Governor Prof. Anyang’ Nyong’o has said that the county has embarked on a project to install solar panels in all boreholes in the area.

He said that the initiative is aimed at ensuring sustainable management of the facilities, provision of safe water and reducing electricity expenditure.

“Ten boreholes that were either pumped manually or installed with electrically driven pumps have been upgraded and equipped with solar-driven pumps,” he said.

Speaking in Kisumu, Nyong’o said that Kanyipola Water Project in Nyando, Kibigori Water Project in Muhoroni and Kuoyo Kowe Water Project in Seme sub-county have all been equipped with solar hybrid pumps.

The Governor also said that with support from partners they managed to increase access to safe water to 21,000 residents through the development of 27 new water facilities and the rehabilitation of 14 others.

“Some of the projects include St. Martin Deporres-Nyabondo Water Project supported by Living Water Services in Nyakach sub-county and Kochoggo Water Project supported by Habitat for Humanity,” he said.

Nyong’o assured residents that his focus is now on seeking partnerships to develop new water infrastructure and rehabilitate existing ones.
