KUSCCO regional boss: Sensitize residents on importance of Saccos

By Our Reporter.

Nyanza residents should be sensitized on the importance of investing in Saccos to empower them economically.
The Kenya Union of Savings and Credit Co-operatives (KUSCCO), Western Region Manager, Stephen Makori lamented that most Saccos in the region are formed with short-term goals in mind, hence they don’t last.
Saying the region had a huge potential that has not been tapped, Makori challenged local leader and other opinion-shapers to sensitize residents on the importance of Saccos in growing the local economy.
“Unfortunately, we have a problem in Nyanza Region, our people don’t take Saccos seriously, they are formed to attract funding from politicians or foreign donors. Saccos formed politically don’t survive,” he observed.
Makori revealed that several communities now address most of their financial challenges through their Saccos.
“Members of Saccos are able to get assistance from their own Sacco, either to pay school fees for their children or when marrying, they can take a loan from a Co-operative for that purpose,” he said.
