Sacco pursues ISO certification

By Malachi Motano

Magadi Sacco has began the journey of ISO 9001:2015 certification process on quality management to enhance its ability to consistently provide products and services.

That will ensure that they meet customer and regulatory requirements and to demonstrate continuous improvement.

Speaking during the Sacco’s Annual Delegates Meeting (ADM) recently, Sacco Chairman Gordon Opiyo said the use of technology during the Covid-19 pandemic period exposed businesses to cybercrime.

The Chairman however assured delegates that Magadi Sacco did not experience any, thanks to the successful implementation of real time offsite systems monitoring initiative.

In response to the health risks posed by Covid-19 pandemic, the Sacco promptly re-aligned its operations to minimise physical contacts by usage of technology- paperless transactions and virtual meetings.

The Sacco continued to put in place several mitigation factors which are in cognizant of the serious business disruptions caused by the pandemic.

The measures include leveraging on technology to improve safety, actively responding to the needs of the clients, conducting regular business performance reviews and monitoring as was the case immediately after the onset of the virus.

The AGM was graced by CIC Co-operative General Manager Richard Nyakenogo who expressed government’s commitments to streamline the sector for better performance.

“At least now even the non-deposit taking Saccos (Bosas) will be monitored by the regulator. This will weed out the unscrupulous conmen with briefcase Saccos purporting to be registered,” said Nyakenogo.
