A legal expert, Ms Melisa Achieng, has cautioned Kenyans against removing or tampering with land beacons, emphasizing that such actions can lead to serious legal consequences.
In Kenya, a beacon is a physical boundary mark officially placed by a licensed surveyor to indicate the exact legal limits of a land parcel.
Removing or interfering with a beacon is considered a criminal offense and can expose the offender to civil liability for boundary interference and resurvey costs, said Ms Acheing who is also an advocate of High Court of kenya.
According to Section 30 of the Survey Act and Section 19(2) of the Land Registration Act, illegal removal or alteration of beacons can attract a fine, imprisonment, or both.

She advised landowners to engage a licensed surveyor to confirm and reinforce beacons.
“If you suspect beacon tampering, report it to the nearest police station and the County Survey Office for verification and enforcement,”advised Ms Acheing during an interview yesterday with Sacco review Newspaper.
The Lawyer emphasized that beacons are legal boundary monuments and should never be moved except by a licensed surveyor acting under lawful authority.
