Members of West Pokot-based Eco-pillar Savings and Credit Cooperative Organization (SACCO) have formally notified police of plans to stage a peaceful protest in Makutano Town, Kapenguria, over alleged looting and unresolved grievances affecting the society and its members.
In a notice dated May 18, 2026, addressed to the Officer Commanding Station (OCS) at Kapenguria Police Station, the members announced that the demonstration will take place on Friday, May 29, from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
According to the notice, the procession will begin at Chewoyet Gardens before proceeding through designated streets within Makutano Town. Organizers insist the protest will remain peaceful and orderly, with no intention of disrupting businesses or damaging property.
The demonstrators say the action is aimed at drawing the attention of relevant authorities to long-standing concerns surrounding the SACCO’s operations, including allegations of mismanagement and looting that they claim have negatively affected members’ financial interests and livelihoods.
Organizers further appealed for adequate police security during the protest to ensure the safety of participants, members of the public, and property. They emphasized their commitment to working closely with law enforcement and adhering to constitutional provisions governing peaceful assembly.

Copies of the notification were also sent to the West Pokot County Commissioner and the County Police Commander to facilitate coordination and security planning ahead of the demonstration.
The protest will be coordinated by several representatives of the SACCO members, including Rev. Florah Losiamoi, Wilson Loleswaris, Tiamale David, and Michael Lopeyetum.
Security observers say the advance notice demonstrates compliance with legal requirements governing public demonstrations and may help authorities prepare measures to maintain order during the event.
The planned protest reflects growing calls for accountability and transparency within cooperative societies, as members increasingly resort to lawful civic action to demand reforms and protection of their investments.
Authorities are expected to review the notice and put in place the necessary security arrangements to ensure the demonstration proceeds peacefully while safeguarding the constitutional rights of citizens.
