Residents of Koma in Matungulu Sub-county in Machakos County have called on their county government to open the Koma Hill bus park along the Nairobi – Kangundo road in order to boost trade and enable vehicles to operate with ease.

The residents led yesterday by Koma Hill Market Chairman, Antony Mutungi said the bus park was built and completed by Chinese contractors when they were building the Koma- Kenol- Machakos road over six years ago but the bus park has never been commissioned for use by the public.

Mutungi said many vehicles from Nairobi and Machakos were now turning at Koma and there was need to open the bus park to enhance safety of passengers.

He said the vehicles were parking and picking passengers by the roadside thus endangering the lives of pedestrians and hawkers along the road.

“We are wondering why this bus park which was completed over six years ago has not been opened for use by the public. Many vehicles are now turning at Koma and park by the roadside thus endangering vegetable sellers and hawkers, “said Mutungi.

He said many youths were jobless and the bus park could open up new opportunities for many people.

The residents are now appealing to Governor Wavinya Ndeti to prioritize the opening of the bus park, which has shops and a borehole drilled by the Chinese contractors.

Our efforts to reach the county minister for Trade for comment, was unsuccessful.
