The Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development has partnered with Fahari Aviation, a subsidiary of Kenya Airways, to implement drone-based precision agriculture across the country.
The initiative, aligned with the Ministry’s Strategic Plan 2023–2027 and the Government Agenda, places technology at the heart of agricultural transformation. It aims to tackle key challenges facing the sector, including soil degradation, inefficient input usage, pest outbreaks, climate change impacts, and declining youth participation.
The use of drone technology will enable real-time monitoring of soil health, allowing for precise application of fertilizers and pesticides, early detection of pests, and data-driven interventions to improve crop yields. Drones will also assist farmers in responding to climate-related threats by monitoring weather conditions and identifying potential risks such as droughts and floods.
This partnership is a significant step toward climate-smart agriculture and sustainable food production.
Youth empowerment is a central component of the initiative, as Fahari Aviation is set offer training programs in drone operation, data analysis, and digital agriculture, aimed at equipping young people with skills for the future of farming.
