A book that details the life of Industry Principal Secretary Dr. Juma Mukhwana (autobiography) is set to be launched on Wednesday in Nairobi, in an event that will be presided over by Prime Cabinet Secretary Mr. Musalia Mudavadi.
In the autobiography ‘My Passion for Change’ , Dr.Mukhwana shares a truly honest account of his extra ordinary life that contains unusual mixture of passion, persistence , tolerance and hard work that has impacted many lives across the globe.
As winner of the 2009 Norman Borlaug Award in Leadership in Agriculture, Dr Mukhwana is passionate about creating change as a veterinarian by caring for animals.
Dr Mukhwana describes how he started off work as a veterinary officer at the age of 27 after he was hired by his former lecturer Dr. Chris Field (University of Nairobi) to work with FARM-Africa in Samburu and Marsabit to treat camels, an assignment that he took up and didn’t disappoint his boss.
He has been in business for more than 20 years dealing in agrovet products and as an agricultural researcher. He tried his hand in elective politics without success. He also doubles up as a lecturer at Moi University and Embu University.
Dr. Mukhwana served as Deputy Commission Secretary in charge of planning, research and development at the Commission for University Education (CUE) before joining Kenya National Qualifications Authority (KNQA) as founding Director General in 2018.

The author was born in 1965 and started his education journey at Lurende Primary School, later joined Kibabii High School and later on the University of Nairobi before proceeding to the United States of America for further studies (PhD).
Among his classmates at the University of Nairobi were; Dr Paul Otuoma, now Busia Governor, Michael Mbito , former Trans-Nzoia Senator, Jeff Kamau a businessman in Karatina and Eddy Njoroge who worked at Unga limited.
National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula describes Dr. Mukhwana as an individual with persistent spirit and who always sees the positive side of any adversity adding that his resilient, sociable and humble nature tells it all.
“He is a great person and a role model for many,” writes Mr. Wetang’ula in the book.
