  • The facility is expected to open by late September for 1,600 traders.

Small-scale traders in Mwala, Machakos County, are set to benefit from improved trading facilities following progress on the construction of the Ksh76.2 million Mwala Economic Stimulus Programme (ESP) Market.

The modern market, which is 60 per cent complete, is expected to be ready by late September 2026 and will provide organised business spaces for about 1,600 traders.

The project was inspected by the Machakos County Development Technical Committee (CDTC), led by Mwala Sub-County Deputy County Commissioner (DCC) David Tegutwa, who represented the County Commissioner. The inspection focused on assessing the progress of the project and identifying challenges that could delay its completion.

Construction started on January 17, 2026, with between 10 and 30 workers engaged at the site depending on the stage of the works.
