- Nairobi partners with the private sector to improve the business environment
- Reforms target licensing, compliance and access to markets and finance
- New digital platform seeks to make trade fair participation easier for businesses
The Nairobi City County Government has partnered with the Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KNCCI) to reduce the cost of doing business and create a more favourable environment for small enterprises in the capital.
This partnership will focus on removing administrative bottlenecks, streamlining licensing and compliance processes, and improving access to markets and financing for micro, small and medium sized enterprises (MSMEs), artisans and manufacturers.
The initiative will be implemented under the “Jenga Biz, Jenga Nairobi; Partnering for a Thriving Nairobi Economy” programme, which seeks to strengthen collaboration between the county government and the private sector.
As part of the partnership, the Trade Fair Digital Portal has also been launched to allow businesses to register as exhibitors, select sponsorship packages and access logistics information online.

Speaking during the launch, Dr Anastasia Nyalita, County Executive for Business Hustler Opportunities, said the county was changing its approach to supporting businesses.
“The Nairobi City County Government is shifting from being just a regulator to an active enabler of economic enterprise,” she said.
KNCCI Programmes Director Dr Maxwell Okoth said the partnership would turn government private sector discussions into practical action, including policy roundtables aimed at reducing compliance costs and improving business predictability.
The two sides are also finalising a binding Memorandum of Understanding to guide ease of doing business reforms, policy changes and market expansion for local enterprises.
