- Garissa moves to strengthen business support services in Dadaab
- Stakeholders discuss sustaining enterprise services as partner funding winds down
- A new committee will guide the transition of the business support centre
Garissa County Governor Nathif Jama Adam is set to unveil the Dadaab Biashara Huduma Centre and its Transition Committee, a major step in the county’s plan to strengthen trade across all municipalities.
The launch reflects the Governor’s push to formalise business support services for host communities, refugees, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and other local economic actors.
This milestone follows a two-day consultative conference held in Garissa Town. The Garissa County Department of Trade, Investment and Industrialization organised the event in partnership with the Danish Refugee Council (DRC).
Notably, the conference drew a wide range of stakeholders. County government departments, national institutions, development partners, private sector representatives and community members all took part. Together, they reflected on lessons learned and explored ways to sustain the Dadaab Business Support Ecosystem once partner funding tapers off.

During the sessions, participants focused on several priorities. These included strengthening county ownership, improving institutional coordination and building stronger service linkages. Delegates also examined strategic partnerships and resource mobilisation options.
Ultimately, the goal is straightforward. Organisers want to guarantee continued access to business development services, trade facilitation, enterprise growth support and financial inclusion, even after external programmes wind down.
A key outcome of the conference was the official unveiling of the Dadaab Biashara Huduma Centre Transition and Institutionalisation Committee. This body brings together county departments, national government agencies, development partners and other strategic stakeholders under one structure.
Its mandate is clear. The Committee will provide leadership and oversight as the Centre shifts from a partner-supported model to one that is fully owned, institutionalised and sustained by the county government.
