Sacco bookkeepers and officials in Nandi County have been taught how to run tighter, safer and more transparent societies. The two day Sacco Toolkit Training Workshop is taking place at Allen’s Hotel in Kapsabet.
It was organised by the county’s Department of Agriculture and Cooperative Development under the National Agricultural Value Chain Development Project (NAVCDP).
Participating Savings and Credit Cooperative Organisations (Saccos) were split into two groups. Each group attended on a separate day. As a result, both received the same content without overcrowding the sessions.
The programme focused on the daily work that keeps a Sacco trustworthy. Trainers covered good governance and financial management. They also handled record keeping and accountability, which often decide whether members trust their leaders.
Cybersecurity featured as well. Many Saccos now hold member data on computers and phones. Therefore, protecting that information has become as important as protecting cash. Participants also learned to use Sacco management tools to handle their books more effectively.

Facilitators came from several institutions. They included experts from the National Project Coordinating Unit (NPCU), Amtech and Dalberg Design. Officers from the Nandi County Government also led sessions, bringing local experience to the discussions.
The training aims to strengthen how Saccos are governed and managed across Nandi. Organisers also want officials to handle members’ money with greater care. Equally important, they want member information kept safe. Ultimately, the goal is for Saccos to grow and survive over the long term.
Nandi County says the workshop fits a wider effort with NAVCDP and other partners. That effort is building farmer organisations that are accountable, well run and increasingly digital. Stronger institutions of this kind can serve their members better and help them prosper.
