Nawiri Sacco which is based in Embu County has partnered with the Cooperative Bank of Kenya to issue Personalised Cheque Books to some of its clients.
The bank expects to roll out the cheque books in March in a move that is expected to revolutionalise banking in Saccos in the country.
According to Nawiri Sacco Marketing and PR Manager, John Muriithi, the move was informed by the challenges faced by its corporate customers while making large payments.
“Schools, Cooperative societies, traders and farmers had to write letters instructing us to write them cheques when making large payments. The cheque books will offer convenience to them. We have self-help groups with accounts running into millions and who would like to pay in cheques,” he said.
