Cabinet Secretary for Cooperatives and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) Development, Wycliffe Ambetsa Oparanya, on Monday held a high-level meeting with officials from the World Bank Group at the Delta Centre in Nairobi.
The engagement brought together key development partners to assess ongoing reforms and map out strategies aimed at transforming Kenya’s cooperative sector from the ground up.
During the discussions, the two sides examined ways to strengthen governance within cooperatives, expand access to affordable financing, and build more resilient value chains.
They also highlighted the need to adopt digital solutions that can enhance efficiency, inclusivity, and responsiveness to the needs of local communities.

The meeting further explored global best practices that could help modernize Kenya’s cooperative movement and position it as a central pillar of socio-economic empowerment.
According to the Ministry, the dialogue reaffirmed the government’s commitment to a bottom-up economic model that leverages cooperatives as engines of inclusive growth, job creation, and sustainable community development.
The partnership with development agencies will be critical in building a stronger, more resilient future for Kenya’s cooperative economy
