The Cooperative Bill (National Assembly Bill No. 7 of 2024) has been introduced in the Senate. In a public notice by Senate Clerk J.M. Nyegenye, the public has been asked to participate and share their views on the bill.
This bill seeks to establish a legal framework that supports a sustainable and competitive cooperative sector within a devolved governance system. It aims to enhance the promotion, registration, regulation, and supervision of cooperatives while defining the responsibilities of national and county governments in the sector.
The bill was read for the first time in the Senate on 12th February 2025 and was committed to the Standing Committee on Trade, Industrialization, and Tourism for consideration. The committee is required under Senate Standing Orders to facilitate public participation on the bill and take into account the views and recommendations of the public when making its report to the Senate.
