President William Ruto has handed over a 10,000‑litre milk cooler to Kangari United Dairy Cooperative Society in Kigumo Constituency, Murang’a County, in a move aimed at strengthening the dairy sector and improving farmers’ incomes.

Ruto said the facility will help reduce post‑harvest milk losses, enhance value addition, and increase household earnings, thereby improving livelihoods for thousands of farmers in the region.

The cooler is part of a wider programme that will see 12 bulk milk coolers installed across Murang’a County. According to the President, the initiative is expected to benefit more than 3,600 dairy farmers, enabling them to aggregate approximately 37,000 litres of milk daily.

“This programme will allow farmers to preserve their milk, access better markets, and ultimately earn more from their produce,” Ruto said, noting that the project is aligned with the government’s broader agricultural transformation agenda.

The President emphasised that the government’s focus is on increasing productivity and income generation for farming communities, with dairy value chains identified as a key driver of rural economic growth.

“By investing in modern storage and processing facilities, the government hopes to reduce wastage, improve quality standards, and open up new opportunities for value addition in the dairy industry,” Ruto said.

Officials said the installation of milk coolers across Murang’a is part of a long‑term plan to modernise agriculture, strengthen cooperative societies, and ensure farmers benefit directly from government interventions.
