President William Ruto says the affordable housing programme has created more than 1.1 million jobs, a figure he described as the largest job-creation achievement of his administration since taking office in 2022.
The President made the claim while hosting Teso elders at Eldoret State Lodge. He said the programme had opened up employment across a wide range of trades, including mechanics, civil engineers and plumbers, alongside other workers involved in construction.

To illustrate the scale of the programme, Ruto drew a comparison with teacher recruitment under his administration, noting that about 100,000 teachers have been employed since he took office.
He argued that figure was dwarfed by the more than 1.1 million people he said had been absorbed into jobs through the housing programme, which he called his government’s most significant driver of employment to date.
