Sacco officials in court over sale of cement company land

East African Portland Cement Company Ltd has dragged three Sacco officials to Court in connection with the sale of its land in Athi River, Machakos County.

The three – Pascal Kiseli Basilio, Julius Mutie Mutua and Alex Kyalo Mutemi – who are Aimi Ma Lukenya Society officials, were arraigned before Milimani Magistrate Gilbert Shikwe on Monday.

Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) had presented the three under miscellaneous applications seeking more time to complete the probe.

The defense lawyers opposed the application by the investigators for their detention on the grounds that they had presented themselves to the DCI.

The officials were arrested after the Company was awarded ownership of the controversial land that had been sold to unsuspecting individuals.

The DCI indicated that the company was experiencing a high level of invasion of the parcels of plots by unauthorized groups and several individuals who had proceeded to subdivide the land.

The investigators also accused the individuals of swindling money from Kenyans through other societies and company names.
