Nyeri-based Taifa Sacco yesterday celebrated the opening of its state-of-the-art headquarters as part of its Golden Jubilee festivities. The day’s events were marked by pomp and color, beginning with a thanksgiving service at ACK Church in Nyeri.
Nyeri County Governor, Dr. Mutahi Kahiga, who officiated the event, hailed the new headquarters as the start of a new era for the financial institution, which serves hundreds of thousands of farmers, business owners, and workers from both public and private sectors.
“This structure stands as a testament to your growth, resilience, and commitment to delivering exceptional service to your members. The construction of this new head office marks the beginning of a new era,” he said. He added that the building would serve as a hub of operations and innovation, reinforcing the Sacco’s mission to provide quality services to its members.
Taifa Sacco, which has several branches in counties including Laikipia, Kiambu, Nairobi, and Nyandarua, plays a pivotal role in the local economy. Governor Kahiga emphasized that the Sacco has been instrumental in shaping the socio-economic fabric of Nyeri County, which boasts a robust co-operative movement of over 198 active societies, a membership exceeding 500,000, and an annual turnover surpassing KSh 8 billion.
“The co-operative sector is a significant driver of economic growth, employment, and poverty alleviation,” the governor noted, highlighting Taifa Sacco’s role in ensuring that local citizens can access financial services that might otherwise be beyond their reach.
