The Domestic Tourism Association (DTA) has called on both the National and County Governments to consider consolidating and harmonizing all licenses and regulatory requirements within the hospitality and tourism sector.

Kisii Branch Coordinator Moses Okemwa said that currently the industry players are burdened by multiple licensing processes across different government agencies at both levels; often leading to duplication, high operational costs and unnecessary bureaucratic delays.

The coordinator argues that this fragmented system not only discourages investment but also stifles the growth of small and medium enterprises that are critical to the sector.

“We strongly believe that a unified streamlined licensing framework like single business permit or one stop approval would significantly ease the cost and complexity of doing business.” He said.

Okemwa who is also the CEO of Kiong’anyo Cultural Organization and Tours Hub said that simplifying the processes will directly contribute to the growth of domestic tourism by making it easier for sector to operate, innovate and offer affordable services to the local travellers.

He further stressed that at a time when domestic tourism remains a key pillar of economic resilience, it is essential that policies and systems support rather than hinder sector growth.

He said that all can be made possible if the governments engage industry stakeholders in developing practical, inclusive and sustainable solutions that will unlock the full potential of the country’s hospitality industry.

This he added, will quicken the country’s goals of building a more competitive, accessible and thriving domestic tourism sector for all.
