County Government of Turkana has strengthened its association with the Turkana Development Trust (TDT) and Cavalry Development Organization after signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to formalize their partnership.

Deputy Governor Dr. John Erus described the move as a strategic intervention to ensure the two organizations align their interventions with the true priorities of the local population and the county development agenda.

Dr. Erus lauded TDT for serving as an umbrella body for all local organizations and for championing transparent and accountable operations by all development partners in Turkana.

He said the county requires all organizations operating in Turkana as development partners to sign MoUs, noting that TDT and Cavalry Development Organization had now taken that bold step. He added that this would ensure their interventions are properly aligned with the county development agenda and executed through the relevant sector working groups.

The Deputy Governor emphasized the need to strengthen local organizations such as TDT and Cavalry Development Organization, noting that they were best placed to sustain investments put in place by national and international development partners who often exit after completing their projects.

He added that the county had mobilized more than Ksh 20 billion from development partners over the last four years. He said MoUs were part of the strategy to ensure programs are properly coordinated by the Directorate of Partnership and Donor Coordination to avoid wastage, overlap and duplication of efforts.

TDT Board Chair Faith Akiru said the signing was a show of trust in the integrity of the work done by the organization.

“From now henceforth, TDT will be free to work with other development partners and serve as the voice of the people within a framework recognized and approved by the county government,” she said.

Noting that TDT aimed to widen the space for professionals, persons of all cadres and development partners to meaningfully contribute to the development of Turkana, Faith Akiru added that TDT will use the opportunity to ensure that every voice contributes to the transformation of the county.
