Uasin Gishu Governor urges youth, women to join Saccos

Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii has said that his administration has put measures in place to encourage the youth and women in the county to join Saccos.

He noted that these special interest groups should be facilitated to tap into the existing benefits of cooperatives.

The governor was speaking in Soi during the official launch of Kesentany Marketing Farmers’ Cooperative Society, which began as a youth self-help group.

“This vibrant, youthful organization began as a self-help group and through our continuous financial support and capacity-building initiatives, it has successfully graduated to become an established cooperative society,” he said.

Bii said that the Sacco’s will collect and sell milk with a focus on value addition and also develop an Agrovet business.

“To boost them financially, I awarded them Ksh1 million to enhance their planned economic activities,” he said.

Earlier during a meeting with a delegation from Kokwatai Investment Cooperative Society in his office, the county boss affirmed that his administration will continue supporting the development of cooperative societies to spur various economies of scale.
