Unison Sacco to get Sh100m boost in new Financial Year

By Azael Masese.

Laikipia County Government promised to support the growth and performance of Unison Sacco Society Ltd, as it seeks to improve financial inclusion in the region.
Governor, Joshua Irungu noted that with lower interest rates offered compared to commercial banks, Unison Sacco will be central in accelerating the region’s economic growth.
“I am a member of the Sacco, besides my ministers and other staff and this is a clear indication of my effort to enhance the growth and improved performance of the Sacco. We need to join the movement and enjoy the benefits offered,” he said.
The Governor noted that the largest Sacco in the County is his pride and said that he is ready to stand by it, as some of his staff access their car loans and mortgage through the institution.
The interest generated, he said, will form key revenue stream for the Sacco and would steadily improve its balance sheet.
Irungu was speaking during the Sacco’s Annual General Meeting at Wiyumiririe Primary School.
He disclosed that the County Government has contributed about Sh50 million for the Sacco and promised to inject a further Sh60 million before end of the current financial year.
“Come July, at the beginning of the 2017/2018 financial year, I intend to inject a further Sh100 million to the Sacco, bringing the total contribution to about Sh210 million,” the Governor said.
