A Mlolongo-based boda boda Sacco has received KSh1 million from Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti to increase their investment.

Samsa Boda Boda Sacco received the cheque at the Liberty Grounds in Mlolongo on February 24, 2024 during a public participation forum on the 2024/2025 Fiscal Strategy Plan.

The jubilant riders welcomed Governor Wavinya and her entourage to the venue in style as they led the convoy and were rewarded with the cheque which was part of governor’s pre-election campaign pledge.

Speaking at the event head of the county said youths were critical in the transformation of the economy and should be supported in their daily income generating activities.

Wavinya added that she will soon launch the Wikwatyo Fund to enable the youths access capital for their businesses.

At the same venue, a talented girl, Irene Mwende, received a KSh50,000 capital from governor and an opportunity to hone her craft at a youth polytechnic.

Mwende gifted a clock to the governor — beautifully embroidered to resemble the tail of a peacock — and the clock also had the image of the governor well-crafted on it.

She had learnt the trade from watching videos on YouTube. Asked how she wished to be supported, Mwende said she needed KSh50,000 to better her craft, a wish which was promptly granted.

The governor also pledged to help her hone her skills through the county’s Department of Education, Youth and Social Welfare which is set to launch Machakos Youth Service to enhance skills among the youths.
