The Youth Enterprise Development Fund (YEDF) has reiterated its critical role in empowering young Kenyans through access to affordable financing, entrepreneurship training, market linkages, and labour mobility programs, aligning with the constitutional commitment to youth advancement.
YEDF Corporate Communications Manager Benson Muthendi has highlighted the Fund’s recent achievements, including the disbursement of Ksh 200 million to over 2,000 youth who secured employment opportunities abroad in July and August 2025 alone.
“This is a clear demonstration that youth-targeted programs, when well-implemented, can tackle unemployment by tapping into global job markets,” said Muthendi.
He attributed YEDF’s success to the progressive framework established by the Constitution of Kenya 2010, noting that youth empowerment is embedded in its provisions.
“The 2010 Constitution placed youth empowerment at the heart of national progress. Programs such as YEDF prove that constitutional promises can translate into real, life-changing opportunities for young people,” he stated.

Muthendi pointed specifically to Article 260, which formally defines youth in Kenya, and Article 55, which obligates the State to provide access to education, training, employment, and avenues for social, economic, and political participation. He said these provisions laid the foundation for the creation and growth of initiatives like YEDF.
He also praised the role of devolution and affirmative action policies in ensuring equitable access to resources across counties, and noted that access to information laws and public participation mechanisms have enabled young people to engage more effectively in governance and decision-making processes.
“YEDF has become one of the most visible instruments of affirmative action in action. When the government invests in its youth, the benefits ripple across families, communities, and the broader economy,” he said.
YEDF has pledged to remain a dependable partner in unlocking youth potential through financing, capacity building, and global employment linkages.
